It is official, you can now watch movies on the Wii...not the disc kind, and not the downloadable kind. Instead you can watch live streaming videos from Hulu, YouTube, Amazon, ESPN, and Netflix.
First on any computer in your home, you need the PlayOn Software. PlayOn offers a Free 14 Day Trial before you have to pay $40 if you want to keep it, which I think is worth it. This isn't it though. You do still have to pay for NetFlix obviously if you want to watch that, because you just sign into your NetFlix account through the PlayOn Channel.
First on any computer in your home, go to www.PlayOn.tv When you are there, you can read-up on the PlayOn program, and download and install the software. Now to view it on your Wii, you will need this program to be running on your computer while viewing the videos on your Wii, because the videos are streamed from your computer, not the Wii internet itself. When you have that running, turn on your Wii, and use the Wii internet browser (It costs 500 Wii Points to get it, but is oh-so worth it). Then go to www.playon.tv Now the movies will all be available. Make sure first though to make sure that in the settings of the PlayOn software in your computer, you have logged in to YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, or whatever else you want to watch. These settings save, and you automatically log in through the Wii.
Now this is an Open BETA, so there may be some issues, and I'm sure that when it is completed and goes Live, there will be an actualy Channel to download rather than having to go through the internet browser. It is well worth it though.
